Wow. Time flies. Yet again, we are ready to dive into the depths of the New Year and explore the path that lies ahead.
As we bid farewell to the old year, let’s try to embark on a new journey together, embracing loving kindness and humanity. In the next 365 days, let’s focus on something that would help us survive the maddening world for another year.
Let’s not hold grunge.
It is fair to say that we have been hurt many times in 2023, whether it was by our friends, family, or even strangers. And we may still be holding grudge against them because “what they did was not forgivable”.
It may seem a silly notion but holding grunge only hurts ourselves. The person we are holding our grunge against may not even know it. Forgiving isn’t accepting, or approving their misbehaviour. Forgiveness is a tool that frees our souls and lightens our burdens. Let’s leave the old grunge behind, let’s forgive, let go, and move forward with grace, because new year new start!!
Let’s not forget to admit, that we also may have hurt somebody too.
Let’s continue to be respectful.
We have heard it many times. At the end of the day- we are all human beings. If there was an alien invasion, it is ridiculously irrational to assume that they would only target humans from a certain faith, Nationality, race or social/financial status. For them, we are just humans.
And if we pause and think, we all ARE just humans. We are solely responsible for these divisions. We have come so far but yet; we are still creating further divisions amongst ourselves. We don’t want to respect others’ ideas yet, we want everybody else to follow ours.
We forget that respecting other ideas that don’t match ours isn’t an approval or endorsement. A majority of our current behaviour is strongly linked to our upbringing. Some of us believe in certain faith and some of us don’t believe in any deity at all. Some of us love animal products and some of us are vegans. Respecting a vegan’s point of view doesn’t mean that we must follow theirs. Likewise, forcing somebody to change their view isn’t nice either. If we want the world to change, we must first know, understand and respect the existing views.
At the end of the day, we all deserve the same level of respect and kindness. So, let’s make a conscious effort in the new year to see past our differences and treat everyone with the love and compassion they deserve.
Let’s be kind to each other.
We’re all in this crazy world together and being kind is the only way to keep us at ease.
Sometimes, a simple act goes a long way, whether it’s holding the door open for someone, giving a genuine compliment, or letting somebody join from the side roads, these little gestures can make someone’s day. Plus, it feels pretty good too. Let’s pledge to do ONE selfless act each day in 2024.
Let’s focus on ourselves.
The inner force that drives us from the inside is often ignored because we spend most of our time focusing on others and comparing ourselves with theirs. Not only does this make us unhappy, but it is pretty unproductive in all ways. We make a lot of New Year’s resolutions, but how many of them are focused on ourselves, apart from the usual “I want to be happier in the new year” bit?
And we all know what happens in February. We all get caught up in the chaos of everyday life and carry on with our rat race until it is time to make another resolution.
Let’s take a moment to slow down, breathe, and be present. This works wonders for our mental health and overall well-being. Whether it’s through meditation, a long walk in nature, or just taking a break from technology, a little mindfulness goes a long way. So, let’s make it a priority this year to give ourselves the gift of our presence.
Let’s try to become the best version of ourselves this year. Let’s make a promise to dedicate our time and energy to focus more on ourselves, whether it’s learning a new skill, reading those books piled up on our shelves, meditating, or challenging ourselves to step out of our comfort zones, let’s embrace the opportunity to evolve and blossom.
So, Let’s make these our guiding principles as we venture into this new year, and who knows? We might just make the world a little nicer place for all of us.
May your new year be a joyous one.
